The vestiges of opulence, and the apparent date of the architecture at Wady Mousa, are conformable with the remains of the history of Petra.

Wady Mousa was gradually depopulated. Its river, however, and the intricate recesses of its rocky valleys, still preserved the traces of an ancient city.
