What I wanted most was a hug.
The skin letting itself be touched,
The feeling involved without being in prison,
Finding the world in the arms of others
What I wanted most, really,
It was to feel the tear falling and finding lap,
No questions and no rush:
Just complicity and shelter.
A hug. Best way to say it:
"I'm here, with you,
And that's not enough, but it relieves,
At least right now."
I hold the open soul, without malice,
Friendship in a gesture that comforts
A head full of defeats and uncertainties,
A body that already lives on the last thread.
And maybe that hug would give me certainty
that some relief is still possible,
In the days when the soul wears out before the body,
And that crying could come without brake,
And may peace be possible, at least at that moment.
Oh, my friend! A hug, to support
To mothers who spend so much time

And that you knew that, in this storm-world,
There's a hovel standing between my arms.
Helping you deal with everything:
Sick child, unhappy family, abandonment and pain.
And that, in this hovel, you can undress
Of all the guilt planted by this crude world,
And that, like your baby, so sensitive,
You deserve a lap, too.
She deserves to be cared for, and to know
That you don't always have to be strong,
Who has many people for whom
You're radiant, bright, important.
And I, who so wanted to be able to end
With all your problems,
And squeeze you until the shadows are gone,

And what I can give you is this poem,
But all I wanted most
I could give you a hug.
