The Yes
There's an instant between yes and no,
Between the "want" and the "shouldn't":
It's there, in that second that doesn't weigh,
That everything is decided – or nothing.
There's a hurricane that falls asleep in us,
Waiting for a hello, a crack, a fluke.
But the days pass as we flee,
While we pretend time has passed.
There is peace in being mine; there is life in my embrace.
But if you never take the step, soon
The longing for the call will be converted
The disappointment that it wasn't.
And you don't even have to take that step; just call.
Before the chance has passed,
The possibility becomes a dream,
And time becomes "never again."
The biggest mistake is not love: it's pretending to pass.
Because when the body asks and there's no answer,
When the only inheritance is repentance,
The end will remind us that the beginning was possible.
***
How many times have I seen you coming?
How many dawns have I cried
For a kiss that didn't even exist?
How many "what if" have you buried the "yes"?
One day, tomorrow or the next,
You'll be gone,
I'll have stayed away...
And what today could be
The contained groan of uncontrollable enjoyment
Will become the silent cry of despair
For no longer being able to feel, with suspended breath,
The touch of my fingers and the warmth of my arms.
It's not just skin you lose,
Not just sex, which puts it off.
It's the soul that learns to live alone,
The look that forgets how bright it is to see the other.
It's the silence that grows where there was laughter,
The bed that cools down before it's even shared,
The name that dies in the throat
Before it was even whispered.

Then come. Or call. Or just say:
"I'm here. I'm afraid, but I'm here."
Because love doesn't need certainty.
You need courage. A gesture.
A "yes" that breaks the silence.
Come. Before the "maybe" becomes "never."
Before tomorrow becomes too late.
Before our date, always postponed,
Become the legend of a love you almost were.
Come – I promise:
We won't be two strangers
Who, one day, almost touched themselves;
We'll be the moment the weather hasn't gone out.
Because every verse you wrote
I've felt it.
I've lived.
I already have.
I've wished it back.
And when, finally, we're face to face,
With trembling hands and full eyes,
I'll only tell you one thing – also thrilled:
"You came. And the world finally makes sense."
For everyone who still has time.
Call. Go on. Amen.
Before the "never again" comes quietly.
