I had made a mini-tale (it had limits of words, so I got pretty stuck) and intended to sign up for a contest... But I missed the deadline.
Tell me, it was worth missing the deadline anyway, wasn't it? That would never win any contests.
*** WHITE NIGHTS ***
I like to give you books as a gift. Two years ago, for example, I remember giving a White Nights, which I had a long time ago, to a three-month-old boyfriend.
I'm alone today. But it's Valentine's Day, so I decided to give myself a gift. A book, of course.
I'm on the sebum. Russian section. And suddenly...
I find the book on a shelf, squeezed between Tolstoy and Gorki. The bump is the same, the crease in the corner too. I open on the front page and almost laugh: my lyrics are still there, promising “forever” as if scribbling any reminder.
"May this book remind you that dreamers also deserve to be found."
The sebum owner can't explain how the copy got there. It doesn't matter. I don't even bargain: I buy the book back and sit in the cafeteria next door.
Under the old dedication, I write another, smaller:
“For those who stayed. I finally found myself."
I close the book and smile. Coffee cools. I think maybe that's what love is: return the gift to the right sender.
