The TV
It's high at dawn; on TV, only two channels. The rerun of a football match, and a captioned film. The lamp still lit, just hands out of the blanket. It is only two channels; if anyone, in this immense city, is awake and on television, he will certainly be in front of one of the two shows.
On a channel plays an old football game. It is uninteresting, of cracks that no longer roam the lawns; of goals that have long been celebrated, of a result that no longer expresses surprise to anyone; that has already entered history. Still, if any TV is connected at this time in any city house, it could be relaying these same images.
The remote control is triggered and deactivated several times, with a certain vehementness. On another channel there is a captioned film, narrating the Vietnam War. An event that everyone is already tired of seeing; a war in which we do not even enter, a few letters that come and disappear from the screen, without anyone in this world having time to read. A sleepy documentary, but once you have a single TV on in the neighborhood, you may be watching it.
The hours pass fiercely. Now, on TV, we have only one channel left, which broadcasts a World Cup game. If, by any chance, any television in this great state is still on the air, it will certainly be on this channel. A sick game, which is not from the national escrete, which has no consecrated player, which is worth nothing to us anyway. But it doesn't matter: this is the only channel in the air, which is why any TV that's on at that time should be on it.
The window shows that darkness still dominates. The game ends; on TV, monochromatic drizzles claim the absence of tuning of any other image. One can say that, if by chance, some television set, anyone, miserable, old, black and white, whatever; any citizen, finally, who is still awake in front of a TV on, in this immense country, without a shadow of doubt will be facing these comforting and implacable drizzles, who pass the idea that nothing else is in the air.
The window shows the light of day. The eyes, trembling with cold, stretch to the horizon and glimpse the most wonderful spectacle created by God. The black gives way to the purple, which gives way to the red, which gives way to the orange, which in turn gives way to the yellow, which gathers again the black, the purple, the red and the orange to revere the coming of the Astroroy. If any mortal, even in his ignorance, is still awake in this grey and icy world, he will surely be the most graced being in the universe, for witnessing the most absolute spectacle of light and colors, which even the best television set in the world will ever be able to reproduce perfectly.
