Piece of Paper
(Old poems 015)
I-Invidia
I wanted to be you, paper, one day;
Target, clear, sometimes filled
From the words of a cheap poetry;
From the design of a flowery garden.
You don't talk, you don't feel, you don't cry;
You don't do anything; it just shows
What someone wrote before dawn
That because of your glow you won't forget.
You don't feel anything or love
You're capable of exhaling by longing.
You can only relive someone else's pain
Who you write to, who you really feel.
I wish, my leaf, I had one day
One piece of your target and pure body;
To inspire my sorrow and agony
In this black graffiti of the pencil I hold.
But of love, my vain role, you have no taste,
And of tenderness know not the perfume;
And your lines don't love any faces
On the white edges you consider your summit.
You're so dead, anyway, dear paper,
You do not reflect the seas or the sky.
And that you are no inspiration to me;
That being like you, I no longer wanted
For then it would soon burn me
In the sweet experience of a passion.
II- Cellulose
Leaf, leaf,
white page of my existence;
where I can tell myself
of you, O clear paper,
To get it from you
the precious inspiration? No,
the inspiration is divine;
must sprout from the soul
And not you, dear paper.
Your clear lines, your pure body
They don't inspire me,
No one inspires.
But then... what are you for,
or to lend me
Your target body, pure and beautiful,
So that I can, by myself,
write, say, dream...
Oh, my humble leaf!
I envy you so much.
You're clear, but you don't show
how you feel;
Then let me also be a leaf,
Clean, loose, a wind carries,
And sometimes it does,
so I can do it, then,
Just like you.
and in you,
steal the magic of poets
- and, believe me, they exist--
May they come and take my hand.
Hands that wield, with grace and opulence,
the beautiful scribbles of hard coal.
III-Sleep
I have a leaf in my hand; but it does not come to me
The interesting thing, something that doesn't jump
To the eyes at first sight; I lack
The so-called inspiration: write to whom?
Write to the one who left me without
His soft lips, which this fool exalts;
Compose an aria, write it on the agenda,
Write nothing, write to nobody.
I have in my hands the leaf, O damn paper;
And damn it! I don't want to write
About nothing! About these pie lines
I won't keep what I don't believe:
I believe in all my longings,
I believe in love; of love I will live!
