What are poems for?
What's a poem for? Nothing?
To tell a veiled truth?
To conquer a cold heart?
To overflow feelings until it's empty?
Who do I write a poem for?
So I can be happy myself?
So I can get free? Let me go?
So that Love will one day come back?
The art of the poem is in transmitting
Truths from me I won't know how to feel
And hope whoever reads it understands it
And let a spark light within him.
The poem would fulfill its purpose, then:
Invite that person to reflection.
She'd read it and understand what I'm saying:
My poem, then, would be your best friend.
And when you think about what I would say to you,
Through my cheap poetry,
This person would understand that, too,
I make you think, and I love you.
But what if what I have to say doesn't please you?
If she gets it wrong, then how do you do it?
If my message is not direct to you,
It is a sign, then, that I am not a good poet.
What if my yearning for unspeakable truths
Depriving me of happy and impossible futures?
Then I must keep it to myself, just,
Because I don't want to get in your trouble.
So, angel, don't be mad at me.
My poem only intends to be shelter
What I think you should have in life:
And so he will have his mission accomplished.
My poem does not intend to teach:
This isn't, at last, your job.
He just wants to show you that his fears
They shouldn't deprive you of new plots.
He just wants to rid me of need
To tell you the deepest truth:
That only exists for the poet to tell you
Who loves you so much, he doesn't want to see you suffer.
